The bete noir of the family is Jacob Livshultz, son of Michael, grandson of Chaim Livchitz. He was born on May 14, 1972 in Minsk, Belarus. Jacob immigrated with his family to the United States in 1980, first settling in Chicago and residing in New York City since 1992. He began formal study of painting in 1982. That included private lessons in French-style academic painting, and several stints at Chicago Academy of the Arts, Evanston Art center and Noyes Arts Center (Evanston, Illinois). There he primarily worked on landscapes, portraits and figurative compositions. Jacob went to Washington University in St. Louis in 1990, where he studied art and architectural history with Peter Blake (a significant figure in the 1950's NY scene). Finally moving to NYC in 1992, Livshultz took up studies at NYU (1992-94), New York Studio School (1995) and the Art Students League of New York (1996-97). Since 1997, he has exhibited at Lincoln Terrace Gallery (1997, 1999) and various galleries in NYC (DFN, Jorgensen, Gale Gates). Jacob currently maintains a studio in Manhattan, where his work may be seen by appointment.
